One of our patients Rocky was visiting the clinic to get his blood pressure taken. Blood pressure monitoring is essential in assessing severity of heart disease, kidney disease and thyroid disease. It also helps us determine if treatment is working well for our patients. Unfortunately blood pressure can rise temporarily very easily with stress, so when we have to take blood pressure from a pet, it normally means a whole day in the clinic with us. We take multiple readings and often find as the patient relaxes and becomes accustomed to the machine, readings become more accurate. Although it means spending a whole day in hospital, our patients get lots of attention, cuddles, and we try to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
